Privacy Policy

The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania provides you with access to services and information online. This statement describes our online information-collection practices for this website and explains how we may use or disclose your personal information.

Scope

This statement applies only to information collected by this website.

What we collect and why

We collect the following types of information about you to respond to your requests, process registration information, provide you with better service, or promote our programs.  We may combine this information with information from previous visits to provide you with added convenience in using our services.

Auto-collected information (web logs)

The following information is automatically collected: the Internet domain and IP address from which you accessed our website, the date and time of your visit and the pages you visited on our sites. This information helps us understand aggregate uses of our site, track usage trends and improve our services.

Information you provide directly to us

You may provide different types of information to us when you request information, access various content or features, participate in our blogs or forums, directly contact us, or otherwise interact with our websites, mobile sites or mobile applications, including:

  • Contact information such as name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and mobile number;
  • User name and password

If you choose to provide this personally identifiable information directly to us, this information can be associated with the data collected by the cookies, web beacons, or pixels used on this site.  This information allows us to track your visits online and offer you information that we believe would interest you, based on your visits to our website.

Cookies and Web Beacons

Cookies are files that many websites transfer to users’ hard drives to enable the site to deliver personalized services or to provide persistent authentication. The information contained in a cookie typically includes information collected automatically by the web server and/or information provided voluntarily by the user.  Our website uses persistent cookies in conjunction with a third party technology partner to analyze search engine usage and web traffic patterns. This information is used in the aggregate to monitor and enhance the Penn web pages.

We also use, directly or through our third-party partners, web beacons and pixels on some of our website pages in conjunction with cookies to compile statistics about site usage and to help us target relevant advertisements to you more effectively.  Web beacons are small pieces of code that are embedded on the pages of websites or applications so we can detect when they have been viewed.  These technologies allow us to deliver personalized advertisements to you on third-party websites and measure the impact of that advertising.   In these situations, it is our goal to deliver relevant advertisements based on specific online activity related to search and site behavior.   We also use pixels in HTML emails to determine whether our recipients have opened those e-mails and/or clicked on links in those e-mails.  This allows us to gauge the effectiveness, relevance, and value of our e-mail communications.

You may change your cookie preferences by activating the setting on your web browser that allows you to delete or refuse the placement of cookies.  If you delete or reject cookies, you may be unable to use fully our website or some pages of the site might not function properly.

Security

Our office is committed to ensuring the security of your information. We have put in place reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards designed to prevent unauthorized access to or use of the information collected online.

Sharing your information

We will not share your information with third parties except:

  • as required by law
  • as necessary to protect the University’s interests,
  • with third-party service providers or partners; or
  • in instances that you permit or in accordance with your consent

This site may contain links to other websites not affiliated with our office.
