Wharton School Announces Appointment of Prof. Harbir Singh as New Vice Dean for Global Initiatives
Philadelphia, Sept, 17, 2008 -- Thomas Robertson, dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, has appointed Professor Harbir Singh as the new Vice Dean for Global Initiatives. In his new role, Prof. Singh will champion the Wharton School’s global activities including research, education and knowledge dissemination. Prof. Singh will help coordinate the school’s agenda for globalization in close collaboration with the undergraduate and graduate divisions, including the internationally focused Huntsman and Lauder Programs.

Wharton School Holds Dinner to Celebrate Murrel J. Ades Professorship
Philadelphia, Pa., September 24, 2008 — The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania recently commemorated the inaugural appointment of the Murrel J. Ades Professorship, endowed through a $2 million gift from Robert A. Ades in 2003. Z. John Zhang, a distinguished professor within the School’s marketing department, has been named the first Ades Chair.

Wharton School to Launch Knowledge@Wharton High School
New Venture Encourages Business Literacy for Next Generation
Philadelphia, September 24, 2008 -- The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has announced plans to launch a high school version of its popular online journal Knowledge@Wharton, which reaches 1.25 million subscribers worldwide. Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS), to kick off in February 2009, will be a free biweekly site offering articles, videos, podcasts, business-related learning simulations and interactive tools targeted to high school students as well as teachers. The goal is to help the coming generation understand business concepts and the role that business plays in realizing their dreams as well as driving innovation and social change.

Statistics Prof. Tony Cai Receives 2008 COPSS Presidents' Award
August 12, 2008 -- The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) has named Prof. Tony Cai the recipient of its 2008 COPSS Presidents' Award. Bestowed upon a person under the age of 40 for outstanding contributions to statistics, the COPSS Presidents' Award is one of the highest honors in statistics. COPSS activities include coordination of statistical meetings, the preparation of material to inform students about statistics, the sponsoring of lecture series and prizes, and the production of statistical directories. The COPSS Presidents’ Award was first given in 1981 to Peter J. Bickel of the University of California, Berkeley. Statistics Prof. J. Michael Steele named 2008-2009 President-Elect of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics
July 16, 2008 -- The Institute of Mathematical Studies has elected Statistics Prof. J. Michael Steele as its President for 2008-2009. The Institute, with 4,500 members, is the pinnacle international academic society for the statistics profession, dedicated to the development, dissemination, and application of statistics and probability. It holds academic conferences, bestows awards and publishes numerous journals including Statistical Science. A Wharton faculty member since 1990, Prof. Steele is the C.F.
