The Círculo de Empresarios and Wharton announce publication of the 2008 Yearbook on the Internationalization of Spanish Companies
(Madrid and Philadelphia, November 10, 2008) -- The Círculo de Empresarios and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania have announced today the publication of the 2008 Yearbook on the Internationalization of Spanish Companies. This report, edited in English and in Spanish, is now in its second year, and provides an in-depth analysis of the presence of Spanish firms in the global economy. Its goal is to assess each year the international presence of Spanish firms, highlighting their successes and the competitive challenges for the future.

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Funds New Initiative to Address the Financial Market Crisis
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announces a major new initiative to study the ongoing financial market crisis and to improve public understanding of economics and finance. This new effort will analyze the causes and consequences of the economic turmoil as well as explore alternative institutional and regulatory reforms for improving market performance. Four initial grants, totaling $2.7 million, signal a recommitment to the Foundation’s historical role in developing economic understanding that can help institutions and individuals make wise decisions. The grant to the Wharton Financial Institutions Center will support development of theoretically and empirically sound frameworks for guiding regulatory policy in the financial services sector. The Wharton School Launches New Wealth Preservation Program for High-Net-Worth Investors
Wharton Offers High-Net-Worth Individuals Strategic Wealth Management Knowledge from Its Top-Ranked Finance Department
Philadelphia, PA, Oct. 27, 2008 -- The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania today announced that Wharton Executive Education has launched a new wealth preservation program for high-net-worth investors in response to the pressing need for strategic wealth management knowledge in the present economic crisis. Wealth Preservation in an Age of Uncertainty will draw upon diverse experts from Wharton’s top-ranked Finance Department. The program, which is designed for investors with between $5 million and $30 million in assets, will be launched December 14-17, 2008, in time for individuals to consider end-of-year tax implications of their decisions.

J. Sanford Schwartz, M.D., Professor of Health Care Management is named a member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) announced the names of 65 new members and five foreign associates in conjunction with its 38th annual meeting. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. Wharton School Announces Appointment of Prof. Harbir Singh as New Vice Dean for Global Initiatives
Philadelphia, Sept, 17, 2008 -- Thomas Robertson, dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, has appointed Professor Harbir Singh as the new Vice Dean for Global Initiatives. In his new role, Prof. Singh will champion the Wharton School’s global activities including research, education and knowledge dissemination. Prof. Singh will help coordinate the school’s agenda for globalization in close collaboration with the undergraduate and graduate divisions, including the internationally focused Huntsman and Lauder Programs.

Wharton School Holds Dinner to Celebrate Murrel J. Ades Professorship
Philadelphia, Pa., September 24, 2008 — The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania recently commemorated the inaugural appointment of the Murrel J. Ades Professorship, endowed through a $2 million gift from Robert A. Ades in 2003. Z. John Zhang, a distinguished professor within the School’s marketing department, has been named the first Ades Chair.

Wharton School to Launch Knowledge@Wharton High School
New Venture Encourages Business Literacy for Next Generation
Philadelphia, September 24, 2008 -- The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has announced plans to launch a high school version of its popular online journal Knowledge@Wharton, which reaches 1.25 million subscribers worldwide. Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS), to kick off in February 2009, will be a free biweekly site offering articles, videos, podcasts, business-related learning simulations and interactive tools targeted to high school students as well as teachers. The goal is to help the coming generation understand business concepts and the role that business plays in realizing their dreams as well as driving innovation and social change.
