Statistics Prof. J. Michael Steele named 2008-2009 President-Elect of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics
July 16, 2008 -- The Institute of Mathematical Studies has elected Statistics Prof. J. Michael Steele as its President for 2008-2009. The Institute, with 4,500 members, is the pinnacle international academic society for the statistics profession, dedicated to the development, dissemination, and application of statistics and probability. It holds academic conferences, bestows awards and publishes numerous journals including Statistical Science. A Wharton faculty member since 1990, Prof. Steele is the C.F. Koo Professor of Statistics and Operations and Information Management and a former Fellow of the Institute for Mathematical Statistics. For more on Prof. J.
