Statistics Prof. J. Michael Steele named 2008-2009 President-Elect of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics
July 16, 2008 -- The Institute of Mathematical Studies has elected Statistics Prof. J. Michael Steele as its President for 2008-2009. The Institute, with 4,500 members, is the pinnacle international academic society for the statistics profession, dedicated to the development, dissemination, and application of statistics and probability. It holds academic conferences, bestows awards and publishes numerous journals including Statistical Science. A Wharton faculty member since 1990, Prof. Steele is the C.F. Wharton School Announces $1 Million Gift from Arthur and Dahlia Bilger to Launch Wharton Interactive Media Initiative
Philadelphia, Pa., June 30, 2008 -- The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce a $1 million gift from alumnus Art Bilger and his wife, Dahlia. The gift is to create and support the Wharton Interactive Media Initiative (WIMI). Mr. Bilger is a member of the Wharton School’s Board of Overseers and a Managing Member of Shelter Capital Partners, LLC, a Southern California-based private investment fund.

The prize was awarded at the Wharton School's annual Venture Finals April 30, 2008 where student finalists received a total of $73,000 in combined cash prizes, access to capital and in-kind legal/accounting services.

Wharton School Appoints Kenneth Manotti as Head of External Affairs
Philadelphia, Pa., Jan. 8, 2008 -- After an extensive search to appoint a new head of external affairs, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania announced that Kenneth Manotti will join Wharton on Feb. 29 as associate dean of external affairs. Manotti had a previous tenure at Wharton and returns to campus with extensive domestic and international experience in campaign fundraising and alumni relations. He also brings a strong base of management experience.
