Philadelphia, PA, September 26, 2007 -- What: The Wharton School’s Leadership Lecture Series announces that P Chidambaram, Finance Minister of India, will appear this evening as the first speaker of the academic year. Mr. P Chidambaram is the Finance Minister of India in the Congress Party led United Progressive Alliance Government which took office in May 2004. A lawyer by trade, he has been active in politics from the late 1960s in the Youth Congress and the Congress Party, and was first elected to the lower house of the Indian Parliament in 1984. Mr. Chidambaram was inducted into the Union Council of Ministers in September 1985 as a Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Commerce and then in the Ministry of Personnel. He has held a variety of ministerial positions since this time.
