Wharton MBA Students Meet Indian Business Leaders In Winter Trip
Students Visit Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur
Dec. 20, 2004 — Sixty-four Wharton MBA students will travel to India from Dec. 24-Jan. 8 to meet with key government and business leaders, part of an ongoing effort to learn more about the country’s growing influence in the international marketplace.
The India Global Immersion Program (GIP) has been organized jointly by the Wharton Graduate Division and the Wharton India Club. It is designed to provide Wharton MBA students with in-depth exposure to the business environment of significant global markets, thus better preparing them for a career in the world economy. The program offers students an overview of India’s past and current economic policy, as well as the role of critical 1991 reforms in shaping India’s economy. Many of the Wharton MBA students may be visiting with plans to return to the region for career opportunities.
“For years, Wharton has made international trips a tradition,” says Anjani Jain, vice dean and director of the Wharton School Graduate Division. “India’s rapid ascent in the global economy and its established market and regulatory institutions make it a logical and important choice for increased exposure to future business leaders.”
This is the first time that the Wharton MBA program has offered a tour to India. In recent years, Wharton has organized GIP tours to Greater China, Europe and Latin America. The sixty-four Wharton MBA students travelling to India will meet with organizations such as Adlabs, BCG, CII, Daksh, Dr Reddy’s Lab, Hindustan Lever, ICICI, Infosys, ISB and L&T. The two-week program will also include visits to Mumbai (Dec. 26-28), Hyderabad (Dec. 29-30), Delhi (Dec. 31-Jan.4), Agra (Jan. 5) and Jaipur (Jan. 6-8).
“The Wharton MBA program is widely considered to be one of the finest programs in the world,” said Sachin Chopra, WG’05, program chair of the Wharton India Global Immersion Program. “Like the alumni of the past 120 years, our current class will graduate to become leaders of organizations and industries worldwide. We are proud and fortunate to be associated with a strong alumni network in India that is enthusiastic to share lessons of the Indian business landscape.”
