Wharton MBA Students Meet Indian Business Leaders In Winter Trip
Students Visit Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur
Dec. 20, 2004 — Sixty-four Wharton MBA students will travel to India from Dec. 24-Jan. 8 to meet with key government and business leaders, part of an ongoing effort to learn more about the country’s growing influence in the international marketplace.

Dec. 2, 2004 — Faculty and students in the Marketing Department at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania awarded the first annual Marketing Pioneer Award to alumnus Vernon W. Hill, founder and chairman of Commerce Bancorp. The award is given to an individual who has inspired breakthrough thinking and innovation in marketing. Hill received the award at an event held Dec. 1 at the Wharton School.

MBA Admissions Suite to be Named in its Honor
Dec. 2, 2004 — The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania announced that UBS is making a gift of $1,250,000 to the School to name the MBA Admissions Suite in Jon M. Huntsman Hall. The admissions suite will now be called the UBS MBA Admissions Suite.

November 8, 2004 — The Wharton Global Business Forum — five concurrent regional conferences to be held Nov. 18-20 — will feature business, academic and political leaders from Africa, Asia, Europe, India, and Latin America. Organized by students at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the conferences will address issues ranging from reversing the African brain-drain and the resurgence of the Japanese economy to transatlantic business opportunities for European businesses and India’s role in global commerce. The conferences will occur at various locations in Philadelphia.

August 17, 2004 — The dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Patrick Harker, announced the appointment of Jonathan Spector as vice dean of Executive Education. Spector was a former director at McKinsey & Company as well as CEO of two venture-backed corporations.
Wharton Names Deirdre Woods Chief Information Officer and Associate Dean
July 20, 2004 The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has named Deirdre Woods chief information officer (CIO) and associate dean. In this role, Woods leads a 95-person organization at Wharton Computing in developing and maintaining technologies that further the School’s leadership in experience-based learning.

June 3, 2004 The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has awarded its highest honor, the Dean’s Medal, to K.P. Chao, chairman of the board of Novel Enterprises Ltd., for his exceptional leadership in advancing global business. June 3, 2004 — The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania announced that Knowledge@Wharton, the online business analysis and research journal of the Wharton School, will soon be available to Chinese readers around the world. A Chinese version of Knowledge@Wharton will be launched to reach management leaders in China as well as Chinese-reading populations worldwide. In addition, Knowledge@Wharton and The Boston Consulting Group have entered a partnership to create four special reports on China.

April 28, 2004 — Student team InfraScan whose handheld brain hematoma scanner has already received Navy funding, won the $20,000 grand prize at the Wharton Business Plan Competition Venture Fair. The prize was awarded at the Wharton School’s annual Venture Fair Monday, April 26, 2004 where, in all, students received $75,000 in combined cash prizes, access to capital and in-kind legal/accounting services.

Top Business Leaders Featured at Wharton’s East and West Coast Ceremonies
April 14, 2004 – The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has announced that Klaus Zumwinkel, a graduate of Wharton’s MBA program, will be the featured speaker at the School’s MBA commencement in Philadelphia. Zumwinkel is chair of the board of management at Deutsche Post AG. The May 16 ceremony will occur at 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Field, located at South and 33rd Streets on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania with a reception afterward at Jon M. Huntsman Hall.
Wharton and INSEAD Renew Alliance for Three More Years
April 2004 — Patrick Harker, dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Gabriel Hawawini, dean of INSEAD, announced the renewal of the partnership between the two schools for three more years. The initial success of this alliance, one that is broader and deeper than any other business education partnership, prompted its renewal.
