Wharton Seeks to Raise $550 Million as Part of Penn's Campaign Goal of $3.5 Billion
Penn President Amy Gutmann announced Penn's largest-ever fundraising campaign, "Making History: The Campaign for Penn," during a campus-wide celebration on October 20. Joined by trustees and other campaign leaders on College Green, Gutmann reported that $1.6 billion has already been raised toward the campaign goal. As part of the campaign, Wharton seeks to raise $550 million, with priority highlights including support for emerging research areas, endowed professorships, endowed fellowships and scholarships, curriculum development, facilities and information technology, and annual giving.

39 Reporters Attend Annual Seminars for Business Journalists
Thirty-nine journalists from around the world attended this year's Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists. Media outlets represented included CNN, Marketplace, Les Echos, CNBC, Financial Times, Nikkei, New York Times, Nightly Business Report, Reuters and the Associated Press. The seminars were sponsored by more than 20 companies and organizations such as Alcoa, Cephalon, Freddie Mac, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, NASDAQ, the National Press Foundation, Novo Nordisk, Southwest Airlines, Tyco International and Verizon. visit Seminars for Business Journalists website
Wharton to Host National Net Impact Conference
The Wharton Social Impact Club announced that Wharton will host the fall 2008 National Net Impact Conference. The annual conference attracts more than 1,500 graduate business school students and professionals and challenges attendees to have a positive impact on the global community. WRDS Conference Hosts Over 120 Participants
More than 120 Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) users visited Wharton's Philadelphia campus in early October for the Second Annual WRDS Users Conference. WRDS provides researchers worldwide with instant access to 12 terabytes of financial, economic, and marketing data though a uniform, web-based interface. The WRDS community today has over 200 organizations including the business schools of Stanford and Harvard, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. visit WRDS website
MBA Students Participate in Simulation through the Wharton/INSEAD Alliance
Last month, Wharton MBA students in the microeconomics core course matched wits with fellow MBA students in France and Singapore. Over two weeks, a total of 234 teams (144 teams from Wharton, 60 teams from INSEAD Fontainebleau and 30 teams from INSEAD Singapore) played the MGEC Markets Games, testing their strategic thinking in pricing and investment scenarios. read feature story

Profs. Bradlow and Fader Win Marketing Awards
Professors Eric Bradlow and Peter Fader, with PhD student Sam Hui and Herb Sorensen of TNS-Sorensen, won the EXPLOR Award in September at the American Marketing Association Marketing Research Conference. The award recognizes exemplary performance and leadership in online research, and it highlights innovative applications in online research and the most innovative uses of technology in applications that advance research, online or otherwise.
At the same conference, Peter Fader also won the David K. Hardin Award for an article published in Marketing Research magazine chosen as best of the year by the magazine's editor and a committee selected by the editor.
Wharton Club of New York Announces Winners of Joseph Wharton Awards
The New York Alumni Club awarded Joseph Wharton Awards to alumni Jon Huntsman, W'59 HON'96, chairman of Huntsman Corp., Steven A. Cohen, W'77, chairman and founder of SAC Capital Advisors LLC, Caren S. Franzini, C'80 WG'84, CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, and Aditya Mittal, W'96, CFO of ArcelorMittal. MBA Student Recipient of ULI Kenneth M. Good Fellowship
Eulalia Massague, the Wharton MBA Real Estate Club co-president, has won a ULI Kenneth M. Good Graduate Student Fellowship. The fellowship program is part of ULI's ongoing efforts to build interest among young people in pursuing careers in the real estate and land use industry. Recipients were chosen based on their academic history and current standing, related work experience, career plans and goals. read more

David Kreiger, WG'07, was interviewed about his experience in Wharton's Entrepreneurial Programs and his startup, Home-Base USA, an outsourcing agency that provides customer-service call centers with staff made up of military spouses working from home. (Fortune Small Business, 9/1/07); Ellen Yin, WG'93, W'87, Fork restaurateur who is credited with igniting Philadelphia's Old City restaurant scene, celebrated the 10th anniversary of Fork by publishing a cookbook titled "Forklore: Recipes and Tales From an American Bistro." (The Philadelphia Inquirer, 9/6/07); Andy Liu, WG'02, and David Niu, WG'02, were featured in an aticle about BuddyTV, which they founded to build communities around popular television programs. (Financial Times, 9/10/07); Deepak Advani, WG'98, Lenovo's chief marketing officer, is credited with the idea of developing a global advertising hub in Bangalore. A team of 85 people is currently stationed at the hub. (The Economic Times, 9/15/07); Marc Boom, WG'97, executive vice president of the Methodist Hospital in Houston, was featured in an article about his hand-sanitation initiative.
