2008 Global Alumni Forum Locations Announced
The 2008 Global Alumni Forums will be held in Lima, Peru; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Cape Town, South Africa. The forums are held each year in locations around the world identified as centers of economic importance and business growth. The Lima forum will be held from March 12-14, 2008, with the theme, "New Directions for Latin America." The Ho Chi Minh City forum will be held on May 30-31, 2008, and will focus on, "Vietnam — Star on the Rise." The Cape Town forum will be held on June 26-27, 2008 with the theme of, "The Importance of Leadership." Dean Robertson will lead the delegation to each forum. A number of Wharton faculty, including Professors Raffi Amit, Stephen Kobrin, George Day, Richard Herring, Kenneth Shropshire, Janice Bellace, Marshall Meyer, Philip Nichols, and Ian MacMillan, will participate.

Scholarship for U.S. Marine Corps Officers Announced
A new scholarship was announced at the conclusion of the Quantico Leadership Venture last month. The Venture is a one-and-a-half-day leadership development workshop that builds upon the programs and facilities of the U.S. Marine Corps for developing leadership at its Officer Candidate School. The scholarship was created to honor Captain Robert M. Secher, who was instrumental in partnering with Wharton to design and deliver the Quantico Leadership Venture. Capt. Secher was killed while serving in Iraq and the scholarship is named in his honor to recognize his service and the contributions he has made to Wharton. More than 1,000 Wharton MBA students have participated in this unique hands-on leadership program since it began eight years ago. read news release
CPA and the Zicklin Center to Collaborate on Corporate Governance and Corporate Political Accountability
The Center for Political Accountability (CPA) and Wharton's Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research announced a new collaboration on company political spending and activity and the role of corporate governance in overseeing and regulating this activity. The CPA and the Zicklin Center will kick off their effort with several new initiatives, including a study of how directors carry out their oversight responsibilities of company political spending and activity, a survey of the codes of conduct of S&P 500 companies and how they regulate political spending, and an examination of existing regimes for political disclosure and accountability of the U.S. and a range of foreign countries and companies. read more
Undergrads Can "Venture a Guess" and Play Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs' New Weekly Trivia Game
How did Jon M. Huntsman help sell "billions and billions" of McDonald's Big Macs? Undergrads who know the answer should play Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs' (WEP) new trivia contest, "Venture a Guess!" for a chance to win an iPod Video, plane tickets and other top prizes. The contest, which will run all semester and award weekly prizes, is being offered as a fun way for Wharton and Penn students to learn how much entrepreneurship effects our lives. Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program Announces New Name, New Slate of Company Founders
In recognition of a generous gift from Robert Haft, W'74, Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs has re-named its popular Entrepreneur-in-Residence program the "Robert Haft Entrepreneur-in-Residence Fall Series." This year's program includes one-on-one sessions with entrepreneurs David Brailer, PhD'92, of Health Evolution Partners, Joel Cantor, WG'89, of Cantor Development, and Jeff Fluhr, W'95, of StubHub. During 30-minute sessions, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence meet with students to discuss ideas, opinions, and strategies for potential or actual business ventures. Indian Finance Minster kicks off Wharton’s 2007-2008 Leadership Lecture Series
P. Chidambaram, India’s Finance Minister, spoke last month at the newly named Dhirubhai Ambani Auditorium in the first of a series of leadership lectures. Chidambaram spoke on a range of topics including India’s surge in economic power, the importance of a global economic community, and the need to maintain a healthy relationship with its world partners. The lecture was followed by a 25-minute Q & A session with both undergraduate and graduate students. The 2007-2008 leadership lecture series will feature appearances by many of the world’s most influential leaders and policy-makers. Oz is a cardiovascular surgeon who brings meditation as well as robotics into the operating theater.
