2007 Wharton Economic Summit to be Held April 12-13
Leaders in business, academe, and government will meet at the 2007 Wharton Economic Summit to discuss key economic issues and challenges. This special 125th anniversary event - held April 12-13 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia - will bring together business leaders and many others on more than 30 panels, with topics such as executive compensation, global outsourcing, international human rights, hedge funds, and leadership in sports and media ventures. The event will feature speakers such as: Stan O'Neal, chairman and CEO of Merrill Lynch; Jeffrey R. Lurie, owner of the Philadelphia Eagles Football Club; Randy Levine, president of the New York Yankees; Alfred P. West, Jr., WG'66, chairman and CEO of SEI Investments; George Foresman, Undersecretary for Preparedness, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and Leslie Morgan Steiner, WG'92, general manager of the Washington Post Company. Prof. Mauro Guillén Named Director of Lauder Institute
Mauro Guillén, the Dr. Felix Zandman Professor of International Management and professor of sociology in Arts and Sciences (SAS), has been named director of the Lauder Institute, effective July 1, 2007. The Lauder Institute, a collaboration of the Wharton School and SAS, integrates management education with language and international studies to prepare students for careers in global business. Lauder students follow a curriculum leading to an MBA in management and an MA in international studies. The Lauder Institute was founded by Leonard A. Lauder, W’54, and Ronald S. Lauder, W’65, in honor of their father, Joseph. Leonard Lauder is chairman of The Estée Lauder Companies and Ronald Lauder is chairman of The Clinique Laboratories.

Wharton Hosts NFL Players in Executive Education Program
Wharton is once again hosting NFL players in an executive education program designed as part of an ongoing NFL-NFLPA initiative to assist players in preparing for their post-playing careers. In collaboration with the Wharton Sports Business Initiative and Wharton Executive Education, the Wharton program ran Feb. 25-28 and will run again April 1-4. It focuses on a broad range of business topics, including financial analysis, entrepreneurship, real estate development, stock market investing, negotiation skills, risk management, and community reinvestment. The 35 players included Brian Westbrook of the Philadelphia Eagles, Keenan McCardell of the San Diego Chargers, Tank Williams of the Minnesota Vikings, and Najeh Davenport of the Pittsburgh Steelers. read news release
Wharton Business Plan Competition Semi-finalists Announced
The Wharton Business Plan Competition, a program of Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs that has provided thousands of students a chance to pursue entrepreneurial ambitions, announced its 25 semi-finalists. Teams making the semi-finals are working on such concepts as an "eBay for Africans," a low-cost process for turning landfill waste into energy, and a chain of "make your own chocolate" stores. These semi-finalists will now compete for the chance to become one of the "Great Eight" finalists who present their business plan and vie for up to $75,000 in prizes at the annual Venture Finals on April 24. visit the Wharton BPC website
Executive Education Partners with Global Board Consulting Firms
Wharton has partnered with Egon Zehnder International and Spencer Stuart, two leading board consulting firms, to offer executive education programs that prepare independent directors for their expanding roles in corporations around the world. In addition, the School has partnered with China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) to enhance the skills of directors in China. read news release

Wharton Learning Lab Team Wins Penn Model of Excellence Award
The Alfred P. West, Jr. Learning Lab has won a Penn Model of Excellence Award. The team developed innovative software for Penn that creates new paradigms for learning through multi-user, competitive, and cooperative activities, transforming how business education is taught in over 200 other schools now using the system. Members of the team included: Cadence Anderson, Margaret Troncelliti, Alec Lamon, Charles Rejonis, Rebecca Sweger, Ted Donohue, and Erin Wyher.

Winners of Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs Awards Announced
Ten Wharton undergraduates, MBA, and PhD students - from such diverse locations as Indonesia, Israel, Nigeria, China, and Washington, DC - won $6,000 awards from the Shils-Zeidman Fellowships in Entrepreneurship. The award was co-founded by the late Prof. Edward B. Shils as one of his many acts of generosity and dedication to students. Administered by Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs (WEP), the endowment supports students who are members of qualifying U.S. minority groups, citizens of developing countries, or citizens of Israel who have strong academic records and a demonstrated academic and professional interest in entrepreneurship. Undergraduate Team Wins Wake Forest Case Competition

Undergraduate to Present Paper at National Conference
Henry Friedman, W'07, was selected to present a paper at the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference that he co-authored with Professor Gavin Cassar, as part of the Wharton Research Scholars Program. The paper is titled, "Does Overconfidence Affect Entrepreneurial Investment?"
