Alumni to Gather in Rio de Janeiro: Aug. 10-11
Hundreds of alumni and friends of the School will gather in Rio de Janeiro Aug. 10-11 for a Global Alumni Forum, part of the School's celebration of its 125th anniversary. Speakers at the forum in Rio de Janeiro will include business and government leaders such as: Henrique Meirelles, governor of the Central Bank of Brazil; Alain Belda, chairman and CEO of Alcoa; Roberto Civita, W'57, chairman and CEO of Abril Editora; Pedro Henrique Mariani, CEO and president of Banco BBM; Arminio Fraga Neto, founder of Gávea Investimentos; Hector Medina, EVP Planning and Finance, CEMEX; Mary Anastasia O'Grady, member, Editorial Board, The Wall Street Journal; Pedro Moreira Salles, vice chairman and CEO of Unibanco; and Ernesto Silva, COO of Coca-Cola FEMSA. Wharton alumnus Robert Mangels, WG'75, chairman and CEO of Mangels Industrial, serves as chairman of the forum's Organizing Committee. read news release
First-Ever Global Alumni Forum Held in Istanbul: June 8-9
On June 8 and 9, Wharton traveled to historic Istanbul as part of the celebration of the School's 125th anniversary. The sold-out Global Alumni Forum in Istanbul hosted alumni, faculty members, and other guests. Dean Harker and committee chairman Mehmet Habbab, W'65, WG'67, chairman of the Delta Petroleum Group of Companies, welcomed an impressive slate of dignitaries and business leaders from Europe and the Middle East, including Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister of the Republic of Turkey; Ross Wilson, ambassador of the U.S. to the Republic of Turkey; Tezcan Yaramanci, chairman of Bank Europa Turkey; and Muhtar Kent, president of Coca Cola International. read news release
Leading with Resilience: Coming Back from Challenge and Adversity
Wharton hosted its 10th annual Leadership Conference on June 13 as part of the School's 125th anniversary celebration. The one-day intensive conference focused on how managers can lead with resilience and come back from challenge and adversity, whether in the private, public or nonprofit sectors. Speakers included author Jim Collins; Peter M. Dawkins, vice chairman of Citigroup Private Bank; Helen Greiner, cofounder and board chair of iRobot; Sylvia M. Professor Mitchell Awarded Honorary Doctorate
The University of St. Gallen has awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Economics to Professor Olivia Mitchell, honoring her for her "trail-blazing contribution toward the theory and practice of retirement insurance and its financing, as well as her services to the scientific community and decision-makers from all over the world."

Prof. Lodish Bicycles Across Israel to Raise Funds for ALS
Professor Leonard Lodish and his wife Susan recently rode their tandem bicycle 1,000 kilometers through Israel to raise funds for ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Undergraduate Student Michael Page Wins Do Something BRICK Award
Wharton undergraduate Michael Page, W'09, has been named a winner of a 2006 Do Something BRICK Award®, a national youth leadership organization with a mission to inspire young people to improve their communities. He was recognized for founding and operating Talking Pages, Inc., a non-profit online library of audio books for the visually impaired.

Undergraduate Alumnus Named White House Fellow
Eugene Huang, W'99, was named a White House Fellow. He serves as a visiting scholar at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research at Stanford University, where his research interests focus on macroeconomic policy and technology, competitiveness and innovation. Previously, Huang was the secretary of technology for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

MBA Alumna Receives Meritorious Service Award
Dr. Elizabeth Genovese, M'82, WG'83, was awarded the 2006 Meritorious Service Award from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). She is medical director of IMX-Integrated Medical Management Services, Inc., a provider of independent medical examinations and review services. She also is on the faculty for the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Occupational Medicine residency program.
Undergraduate Alumnus Receives Burton Award
Brian L. Rubin, W '84, recently received the 2006 Burton Award for Legal Achievement for his article, "The House That the Regulators Built: An Analysis of Whether Respondents Should Litigate Against NASD." The Burton Award is a national program, in association with the Library of Congress, dedicated to refining and enriching legal writing by lawyers and law school students.
