    Faculty Continue Alumni Tours around the World
    Alumni around the world continue to celebrate the School's 125th anniversary with receptions and faculty talks. Last month, Professor Richard Shell met with alumni in St. Louis and Professor David Reibstein spoke to alumni in Los Angeles. Dean Patrick Harker also attended the Los Angeles event. Upcoming events include Professor Kenneth Shropshire speaking in Portland and Professor Marshall Meyer in Beijing. view more 125th events

School News

    Wharton Welcomes New Students
    Wharton recently welcomed 512 new undergraduates for its single degree program, Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business, Jerome Fisher Program in Management & Technology, Nursing and Health Care Management program, and newly launched Vagelos Program in Life Sciences and Management. They come from 48 U.S. states and 39 countries around the globe. The MBA program's Class of 2008 has 800 matriculants, 45% of whom are international, hailing from 70 different countries.

    Business Plan Competition to Test India's Entrepreneurship Prowess
    At the launch event celebrating the debut of India Knowledge@Wharton on Nov. 1 in Mumbai, the School will hold an awards ceremony for the finalists of a special India version of the Wharton Business Plan Competition, which received more than 600 individual entries from students studying at business schools and colleges across India. read news release

    Alumnus Robert M. Levy and Diane v.S. Levy Give $5 Million
    Alumnus Robert Levy, partner, chairman and chief investment officer of Harris Associates, L.P., and his wife, Diane v.S. Levy, recently gave $5 million to Penn and Wharton. The gift will establish the Diane v.S. and Robert M. Levy Social Impact Fund with $2 million; provide supplemental funding of $2.75 million to the existing Levy Endowed Fellowship Fund; and benefit the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology with $250,000. read news release

    New Faculty Join Wharton From Around the World
    Joining six academic departments in Fall 2006, Wharton's nine new professors reinforce the School's links to the country's other leading universities and business schools, with graduate work at Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Duke, NYU, and the University of Chicago. The new faculty members bring unprecedented global diversity to the School, hailing from Iceland, Israel, Germany, Canada, Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. read feature

    The Institute of Contemporary Art and Wharton Present Collaborative Series on The Business of Art
    Wharton, in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), will present The Business of Art, a series of ongoing collaborations commencing in 2006. This series will open with an inaugural event, Dealers and Collectors, on Oct. 4 at 5:00 p.m. in Jon M. Huntsman Hall, featuring ICA overseer and art collector Glenn Fuhrman, W'87, WG'88, in conversation with dealer Larry Gagosian, whom Art Review magazine called "the world's greatest art businessman." read news release

    Undergraduate M&T Students Address Water Shortage in Honduras
    A group of Penn and Wharton undergraduates returned this past May from Honduras, where they participated in a program through Penn's Engineers Without Borders (EWB) to address the village of Terreritos' water shortage and gain valuable out-of the-classroom experience. PennEWB's mission, as one of the non-profit's 148 U.S. chapters, is to help developing communities improve their residents' quality of life. Wharton students on the trip included Priyanka Agarwal, W'07, SEAS '07; Alex Mittal, W'07, SEAS '07; and Matt Owens, W'09, SEAS '09. All Wharton participants are students in the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology. This month, two more Wharton undergraduates -- Thomas Macrina, W'09, SEAS'09, and Priscilla Matos, W'08 -- will travel to Honduras to complete assessments for the water program and other future projects. visit the Penn Gazette for full story and the Penn EWB project website

    Prof. Henisz Wins Private Sector Development Research Competition
    Professor Witold Henisz was one of six winners of the first annual private sector development research competition jointly sponsored by the Financial Times and the International Finance Corporation. "Managing Policy Risk," the paper by Henisz and his coauthor (Bennet Zelner of the Fuqua School of Business), was judged to "merit wide attention, [be] worthy of extensive publication, and add to the global discussion on private sector development and economic growth by providing new analyses, perspectives, judgments or ideas." visit the IFC competition website
