Faculty Celebrate Wharton’s 125th Anniversary Professors Speak Around the World in 2006 Tour
Beginning with the Global Alumni Forum in Mumbai on January 5-7, Wharton faculty members will spend 2006 traveling around the world, meeting alumni and giving presentations to mark Wharton’s 125th anniversary year.
Anniversary events will include alumni forums in Istanbul on June 8-9 and Rio de Janeiro on August 10-11, as well as a reunion weekend in Philadelphia on May 11-14, a 30th anniversary Follies reunion in Philadelphia on February 11-12, and a 125th anniversary finale event in Philadelphia on April 12-14, 2007.
In addition to these events, professors will travel to cities across North America – including Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Toronto, St. Louis, and Washington DC – in a year-long anniversary tour to bring Wharton’s world-leading research to alumni across the U.S. and Canada.
Mumbai Alumni Forum Kicks Off 125th Anniversary Year
Wharton’s first-ever Alumni Forum in India will feature an outstanding array of participants to begin the 125th anniversary year – including Dean Patrick Harker, who will deliver a State of the School message; University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann, who will welcome alumni, parents, and friends at an opening night reception; and
P. Chidambaram, the Finance Minister of India, who will speak on “The Indian Economy at Inflection Point.”
The Forum will also welcome distinguished Wharton faculty, including Jeremy Siegel, Russell E. Palmer Professor Finance, speaking on “The Future for Investors;” Ian MacMillan, Dhirubhai Ambani Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Professor of Management, leading two panels; professors Harbir Singh, Jitendra Singh, and Mike Useem from Wharton’s Management department; professor Jagmohan Raju from the Marketing department; and Professor Anjani Jain, Vice Dean and Director of Wharton’s Graduate Division.
Topics at the forum will include critical issues affecting India — including Outsourcing, Foreign Investments, and Indian Pharmaceuticals — as well as more general topics, such as The Future of Telecom, Alternative Medicine, and Social Entrepreneurship.
Wharton holds its Global Alumni Forums in centers of economic promise and business growth around the world, giving alumni the chance to learn about business opportunities and meet local business leaders. Previous alumni meetings in Asia have been held in such cities as Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Manila, and Phuket.
Wharton currently has more than 3,000 alumni who live in Asia — its highest number of alumni outside the United States. Most of Wharton’s MBA applications from outside of the U.S. come from Asia. The highest number are from India, followed by South Korea and China.
