As a student in the Roy and Diana Vagelos Program in Life Sciences and Management, I am currently pursuing two degrees. One is a Biology major in the College and the other is an Operations and Information Management Concentration at Wharton. I often go from a biology class in the morning to a midday finance class, to a chemistry lab, and then an afternoon comparative literature class. I love the fusion of the two different fields and the way many of my science classes complement the business material I'm learning.
Extracurricular activities
Social Impact Consulting Executive Board; Wharton Undergraduate Cohort System Executive Board; Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Assistant, Department of Emergency Medicine; Rodin College House Residential Advisor, Wharton Undergraduate Social Impact Conference; Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity; Wharton Women Annual Dinner Chair; former member of Penn Parliamentary Debate.
3 best things about Wharton
High quality teaching (and the Take Your Professor to Lunch program), the huge variety of extra-curricular opportunities, the incredible energy in Huntsman Hall.
3 things I love about Philly
The perfect blend of historic and modern attractions, sunset walks along the Schuylkill River, studying in Rittenhouse Square on a sunny afternoon.
Something I’ve learned about myself
The best decision I ever made in my life was to come to Penn (even though it’s so far away from home!).
What I want to do in my life
Teach English in a rural Chinese village, work for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders), backpack around Europe.
What I want to do with my business education
To be honest, I don’t know. And part of me is perfectly fine with that. I’m still a sophomore and there are so many diverse opportunities at Wharton and Penn that I don’t want to limit myself to any one of those (just yet). However, whatever field I finally decide to pursue, I want to take my business education and make as much impact on society as I can. The beauty of a Wharton degree is that it gives you such a strong foundation so you can be flexible and dynamic, ready to react to whatever opportunities come your way and to shape your own, distinct career path.
My favorite experience at Wharton/Penn
The 2009 Costa Rica trip with 15 other Penn students — an amazing Wharton International Program (WIP) Social Impact trip.
