Wharton's 1881-First Mark

Wharton's 1881-First mark is part of an overall campaign that reinforces our heritage as the first collegiate business school and continued leadership in business education today. This mark is used with the Wharton logo and on marketing materials. It is not used on Wharton stationary and business communications.

1881-first mark usage

The 1881-First mark is used WITH the Wharton Logo AND "About Wharton" text. The background information on the School is necessary to ensure that the reader does not confuse "first" as a ranking statement.

Sizing. The mark should never be visually larger than the Wharton logo.

Placement. As a general guideline, integrate the mark into your design; you can place the mark (e.g. a brochure):

  • on the front cover
  • on the back cover
  • on a page, or spread, inside that has been designated specifically to talk about the Wharton School

1881-First mark usage with the Wharton logo. There should always be clearance around the Wharton logo; don't crowd the Wharton logo when placing the 1881-First mark near it. When space is limited, follow these guidelines:

  • size the mark equal to the height of the Wharton logo
  • align the mark centered on the x-axis of the Wharton logo
  • separate the mark at least one space equal the whole width of the Wharton logo

1881-First "free-standing" mark

Although the 1881-First mark may appear anywhere on your design, the guideline above illustrates the minimum space between the Wharton logo and the 1881-FIrst mark.

1881-First mark usage when there is no "About Wharton" text. In certain communication pieces (e.g. an ad), there is no room in the layout to accommodate the "About Wharton" text. An "integrated" 1881-First graphic has been designed for such cases.
