Design Guide

Color

The Wharton School uses the University of Pennsylvania Red and Blue as its official School colors.

Wharton also provides secondary palettes which offers a wider range of colors to enhance your design. Use the primary colors, however, to define the Wharton look-and-feel.

Secondary Colors

The bright and lively colors in this palette provide a layer of excitement to designs, but the overall look-and-feel must retain the Wharton brand identity of Penn Red and Penn Blue. As a guideline, these colors should be used to highlight graphics—or infographics—that show impact that the Wharton School brings to the world.

Accent Colors

We recommend using colors from this small palette when designing for the Web. The use of few secondary colors minimizes "visual noise," which improves the users' ability to quickly (and comfortably) read contents.

Background Colors / Textures

These background colors use gradations and duotones (in case of images), however, solid blocks of color may be used as well. This usage creates the overall rich and textured "blue look" with red accents that defines the Wharton branding.

Rich Blue

Gradation of two blues. Used widely as background in the header section on Wharton websites.

rich blue 1
Rich Gray

Gradation of black to medium grey. Begin with 100% black. Gradate to any level of grey that would allow legibility of white text overlay.

rich black 2
Taupe

A neutral color to highlight lists and data, or to serve as small blocks of call-outs.
