Doing It: Perspectives from an Entrepreneur
As the co-founder and CEO of an early stage startup, Brian Thompson, WG'09, brings with him an especially unusual story. On the surface, Powergetics is not unlike any other ordinary venture-backed startup company: its focus is cleantech, in the area of big data, analytics, and energy storage to optimize the energy profile of commercial customers; it recently completed its first institutional round of financing for over $10 million; and it has about 30 employees. If you peel away the surface, however, Powergetics has hit about every speed bump imaginable. Brian will tell a tale of patience and perseverance involving a hard curve in every road, including team formation, angel financing, encounters (or not) with institutional VCs, lawyers and law suits, product development and product marketing, and more.
