César Bocanegra, WG'08
“I loved all those late-night sessions with my study group... We were study group No. 10, but we changed our name to United Nations No. 10 simply because out of the six of us one was from Nigeria, one was from India, one was from the Ukraine, one was from the US, and one was from Germany. I consider myself from Mexico since I am Mexican-American. Very diverse cultures, very diverse personalities... I know that all these five friends are going to be friends for life. ”

At Wharton, we believe that diversity enhances the relevance of our curriculum and improves the educational experience of our students. We celebrate differences in the backgrounds, opinions, demographics and professional interests of our student and faculty.
Wharton has made a commitment to grow and enhance the diversity of our community by intensifying our marketing, outreach and recruitment efforts. We have hosted, and continue to host, a number of special events targeting underrepresented and diverse candidates, with a focus on women and racial/ethnic minorities. These events provide information about our academic programs in our expanding community and present an opportunity for attendees to learn about our admissions’ process.
For the past three years, we have also increased both the number and types of events that specifically target women to provide a great opportunity for networking and professional development for our students, alumni, corporate partners and potential applicants.
There are no events currently scheduled. Please check back for future events.
Gender Diversity
Women in the executive MBA program find that the program's immersive design allows for important time to develop relationships and build networks. As part of this effort we launched the "Celebrating Women" series, covering a range of topics and highlighting our accomplished alumni and industry leaders. In addition to their informal interactions, Wharton EMBA women are welcome to take advantage of the formal networks organized by the full-time MBA and undergraduate students at the School such as Wharton Women in Business (WWIB).
Racial/Ethnic Diversity
Each year, we hold special events that encourage candidates from underrepresented groups to learn more about Wharton's programs and close-knit community. We also partner with external organizations to develop the next generation of minority business leaders. We place a continued focus on expanding outreach to traditionally under-represented groups — from attending the National Black MBA Conference with our full-time MBA Program, to sponsoring key diversity events such as the inaugural California Diversity & Leadership Conference.
Professional Diversity
We value the unique perspectives students with non-business and nonprofit backgrounds bring to the Program. We accept students with professional experience from a wide range of organizations and industries, including government, law, the arts, communications, and medicine. Candidates may have studied liberal arts, social science, engineering, law, or medicine; developed specialized skills; or earned an advanced degree in another field entirely. While they may lack formal business training, either academically or professionally, they can thrive in our collegial and team-oriented academic environment. In Wharton's learning team structure they find built-in support networks. Students bring their individual expertise to the team, helping those with different experience and business backgrounds to meet common goals.
