and Teamwork
Students come to the Wharton MBA Program for Executives with considerable management and leadership experience. Wharton takes it to the next level. Increasingly unpredictable environments now require leaders and teams to learn rapidly and change quickly.
The Foundations of Leadership and Teamwork course looks at individual, team, and organizational leadership. It lays the groundwork for examining and developing your own personal leadership capabilities, wherever you find yourself within an organization.
A cornerstone of the learning team experience, this core course focuses on horizontal and vertical leadership, team building and performance, team leadership, and ethics. Wharton's learning team structure offers practical experience in horizontal leadership. There are few comparable opportunities to work with a set of talented peers, with whom you can create the goals, policies, procedures, and ways of operating for your organization.
Without an assigned leader, the team gives each member the opportunity to initiate leadership behavior. This is leadership in one of its most natural forms, based on influence and expertise rather than the power of position.
The course has a highly interactive, mixed-method format that examines concepts and builds skills through team projects, class discussions, problem-solving, case studies, and role-playing. Students also have the opportunity to meet and talk candidly with current business leaders. Finally, the laboratory for learning extends beyond the walls of the classroom through experiences that combine lessons in leadership with compelling moments of history and personal challenge.
