Ade Adedeji
Ade Adedeji, WG'06

“Wharton is diverse in every sense of the word, not just from a racial or ethnic perspective, but also professionally. It's not just where people are from, but their openness and willingness to embrace other perspectives and cultures.”

Student Perspective

Ken Lee
Ken Lee, WG'07

“I was surprised at how open-minded everyone is, politically, socially, and open to national cultures as well. I say that from a national perspective as an Asian-American and also from the perspective of Out for Business, the gay/lesbian association that I'm president of. It has been a really supportive environment, and people want to learn about each other.”

Underrepresented Minorities

Wharton is committed to diversity among MBA applicants and students.  Each year, we hold special events that encourage candidates from all underrepresented groups to learn more about Wharton's programs and our close-knit community.  We also partner with external organizations to develop the next generation of minority business leaders.

Our clubs and student associations actively reach out to prospective candidates and others who may one day be interested in an MBA.  This creates an active and supportive environment for underrepresented minorities throughout the admissions process, during their two years at Wharton, and once they become alumni.

Explore Wharton: Diversity in Action

Visit Wharton’s campus on September 20-21, 2007 for our annual prospective student event, Explore Wharton.

Wharton Diversity Receptions

Join us at one of our MBA Diversity Receptions, hosted by alumni and representatives of the MBA Admissions Office, to gain an insider’s perspective on Wharton’s MBA admissions philosophy and process, and to learn more about whether a Wharton MBA is right for you.  For details and to register, please visit our Events page.

African American MBA Association

AAMBAA supports the academic, career, and social needs of African and African-American students at Wharton, while maintaining a comfortable, united, and familial atmosphere. The club builds bridges among current, former, and future Wharton students of African descent to strengthen the black business network — building lasting friendships and creating opportunities for economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Wharton African Student Association

WASA provides a support network for African students, including forums in which to discuss African events and issues, share and disseminate information about African business opportunities, and introduce African perspectives to the broader Wharton community. The club sponsors bimonthly meetings, an African Film Series, the Wharton African Economic Forum, the Wharton African Business Forum, and the Wharton World Tour–Africa Week.

Wharton Hispanic American MBA Association

WHAMBAA promotes the professional development of students of Latin American descent who were born, raised, or intend to live and work in the United States. The club sponsors various social events to create a network within the Hispanic population at Wharton, and it is intimately involved in the recruitment and mentorship of prospective Hispanic applicants. In addition, WHAMBAA serves as a peer network for Wharton's Hispanic students, promoting career development and facilitating interaction among students, alumni, and professionals.

OUT4BIZ

This club provides a support network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students and faculty in the entire Wharton community, including undergraduate, MBA, and PhD students. The club works to foster an open environment at Wharton and, among other services, provides networking opportunities with other students and professionals to discuss employment and career issues and to identify gay-friendly companies.
