Jordan Bookey, WG'07
“I went to career management and said that I found an alumna who works for a non-profit and philanthropy consulting firm. So they gave me her number, I called her, and she spoke on the phone with me for an hour and a half, just talking about what she does. From there, the branching effect was tremendous. She recommended three other people, and every one of them got back to me in a couple of days and spent at least an hour chatting with me.”

“Wharton is one of our key business school relationships. We successfully hire talent on campus for both our full-time and summer programs each year. One of the reasons our partnership with Wharton is so strong is because their students are interested in and qualified for opportunities across our many businesses.”
Wharton has extensive resources to empower students in developing career plans and finding summer internships and full-time jobs – and the skills to manage careers across a lifetime.
Wharton’s career management team, with a wide range of real-world industry experience, brings not only practical resources but also up-to-date, relevant advice.
Career tools and resources include:
Career Planning Workshops and Special Programs
All first-year students have the opportunity to participate in workshops and special programs designed to prepare them for their future careers. These seminars cover market research, self-assessment, resume writing, interviewing, and many other career management skills.
Knowledge Resources
An extensive website with detailed information on careers in each industry is available to each student. It includes up-to-date information on upcoming industry visits as well as data tools to research a company or industry.
Individual Career Counseling
Wharton has one-on-one career counseling available to all MBA students. Counselors participate in more than 1,100 individual appointments each year to discuss such work/life issues as career strategy, resume writing, interviewing skills, and negotiations. Wharton also offers all students recorded mock interviews with experienced interview trainers.
Career Treks
MBA Career Management and Wharton Professional Student Clubs partner on treks that introduce students to opportunities in various industry and regional sectors. Students take onsite tours of companies and meet with upper-level management and human resources representatives in specific industries or geographic regions. In 2007, the seventh year of the Career Treks, students traveled to more than 150 companies in various U.S. and International Cities, including New York, San Francisco, London, and Greater China. Company and geographical selection is based on student interest and may include sectors such as Venture Capital/Private Equity, Technology, Real Estate, Biotech/Health Care, and Media and Entertainment. Treks are usually combined with events that help students tap into alumni networks in the cities they are targeting.
Employer Information Sessions
Wharton hosts more than 200 employer information sessions. These presentations allow students to learn more about the culture and opportunities of potential employers, as well as specific industries through informal presentations by senior managers and recently hired associates.
Resume Book
Wharton has a web-based resume creation and collection system, which gives recruiters a convenient tool to identify students who meet their hiring needs.
Interviewing on Campus
MBA Career Management schedules more than 7,500 MBA student interviews annually in 48 interviewing rooms on campus. Each year, close to 300 companies recruit on or near campus. In late January, there's a 2-week break in first-year classes during which a large number of companies conduct interviews for summer internships. This Dedicated Interview Period (DIP) helps students minimize the conflict between interviewing and coursework. Wharton's Web-based recruiting system allows students to check interview schedules, submit bids for interview slots, and schedule interviews 24 hours a day.
Job Board
An free online job posting board is available to Wharton alums and students. In 2005-2006, close to 6000 internship, full-time, and alumni-level positions were posted from a variety of industries and locations in the U.S. and abroad.
