Students participate in a virtual forum that combines a traditional web discussion with agents, production information, and online surveys

About vForum

» More Details

Although open-ended forums are readily available, they lack the control capabilities and richness provided by vForum. Students enter the site, read new information about a course topic, give their opinions on a set of questions, and comment on the information in a discussion thread. The instructor controls various aspects of the students' interaction such as specifying the number of participants, the order in which they interact, product content, and pre- and post-survey questions.

  • Overview & Product Content — students log on and are presented with an overview of the topic as well as a few pages of information about a new product.
  • Pre-survey & Post-survey — after they finish reading the overview and product content, students answer survey questions. This provides the instructor with a set of preliminary attitudes and opinions. After completing the discussion, students fill out a post-survey.
  • Electronic workspace — the 'workspace' consists of three areas: one for additional product content, one for students to enter their comments, and one to display the accumulated comments.
