Students represent oil-producing countries and try to maximize profits by setting prices and production levels

About OPEQ

» User Interface

» Administrative Tools

OPEQ contains a rich set of administrative functions. The faculty member can create and schedule games and configure them to run in multi-player, single-player, or super-user mode. The super-user version allows the faculty member to take on the roles of all 3 countries, making possible a play-by-play demonstration on a single computer.

The application also features real-time monitoring to allow the faculty member to track team progress. If the faculty member wishes to analyze the data from the finished simulation, he or she can download a spreadsheet containing all the data collected during the game. The spreadsheet contains production and profit levels per country per year and price per year. It also notes the timing of simulation "events" so that it is possible to extrapolate how external events affected team strategy.

Production Level Bar ChartFinally, the application generates interactive charts and graphs, allowing the faculty member to conduct a detailed postmortem with the students. The sample chart to the right displays six years of production levels in a specific World. Data for any world can be displayed, and data for any number of consecutive years can be displayed or hidden. The timing of simulation events is noted at the bottom of the chart.

Production Level ComparisonThis graph, also generated by the application's administrative interface, compares the total production levels of all four Worlds. Again, simulation events are noted at the bottom of the chart. These features provide a fast and easy way for the faculty member to present the simulation results and any related teaching points to the students.
