Innovation Toolkit Product Design Launching a new product requires careful planning and analysis. Wharton’s Innovation Toolkit guides students through a rigorous framework, forcing them to think through their offering with a customer orientation. As they step through the Toolkit, the resulting data is captured and can then be viewed in a series of reports that allow them to uncover hidden opportunities or identify potential problem areas. This framework is adapted from The Entrepreneurial Mindset by Rita Gunther McGrath and Ian MacMillan.

Using the Innovation Toolkit, students create a project and then complete one of several modules:

  • Competitive Product Design
  • Competitive Business Design
  • Optimizing the Business Design

Each module is designed to teach an aspect of entrepreneurial planning and is wrapped in an electronic lesson plan that instructors can easily integrate with their classes. Innovation Toolkit modules contain focused questions that guide participants towards a viable business plan. In addition, the Innovation Toolkit provides participants with context-sensitive supplemental materials related to innovation and entrepreneurship.
