The Wharton School is pleased to offer funding to allow selected journalists whose reporting contributes unique insights to the world of business to attend the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists flagship program in Philadelphia. The funding covers the cost of tuition, course materials, most group meals, lodging for three nights and airfare within the US (where appropriate). The financial support does not cover any other expenses. Other restrictions may apply.

The SAJA-Knowledge at Wharton funding opportunity was established in 1999 in collaboration with the South Asian Journalists Association. This unique opportunity is designed to enhance the quality of minority business journalism. It provides a member of SAJA (as well as up to one journalist each belonging to AAJA, NAHJ, NAJA & NLGJA) with financial support to attend the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists in Philadelphia.

Each award (which covers cost of tuition, course materials and most meals) is worth about $1,999 and is furnished by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The award does NOT cover travel to and from Philadelphia or lodging. The award is presented by SAJA and Knowledge at Wharton, the Wharton School’s research and business analysis journal. SAJA is responsible for the administrative process and works with the other groups representing journalists to select the winners. It reserves the right not to grant an award in any given year.

Who Can Apply

Any member of SAJA, AAJA, NAHJ, NAJA & NLGJA who is a reporter, editor or producer (including freelancers) currently living in the United States or Canada and working in business journalism or a field that overlaps, such as healthcare or technology. Applicants must be available to attend the Wharton program this year. Individuals between two-seven years of experience as a business reporter or those new to business reporting, but with five-10 years of experience as a reporter in another field, are encouraged to apply. Freelancers are welcome to apply.

The Seminars have received the generous cooperation and support of the National Press Foundation since 1986. This year the Foundation will sponsor two all-expense paid fellowships for journalists to attend the Seminars in Philadelphia.

Each award (which covers cost of tuition, course materials and most meals) is worth about $1,999 and is furnished by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The award does NOT cover travel to and from Philadelphia or lodging. The award is named in honor of Donald T. Sheehan, the former Vice President of Public Affairs who created the program seminars in 1968.

The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is offering a funding opportunity for two National Association of Black Journalists members to attend the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists. The award covers tuition, course material and most meals (value: $1,999). The award does NOT cover travel or lodging.

Qualifications:

• NABJ members working as a reporters, editors or producers (including freelancers) currently living in the United States and working in business journalism or a field that overlaps, such as healthcare or technology.
• Individuals between two-seven years of experience as a business reporter or those new to business reporting, but with five-10 years of experience as a reporter in another field, are encouraged to apply.
