Jon M. Huntsman Hall Technology Q & A |
Technology Q & A with Wharton CIO Gerry McCartneyWhat types of technology will be incorporated in the building, but may not be obvious to visitors? As mentioned above, although the technology will be pervasive throughout the building, it also intended to be "transparent" – readily available without being intrusive. Much of the "heavy duty" servers and technology infrastructure will be hidden in closets and specially equipped machine rooms. These rooms will have dedicated systems to control power, humidity and other environmental effects, allowing us to maintain the high-availability service we'll need to make the technology integral to instruction throughout the School. All that the students and faculty user will see are the user interface control panels for these systems, which allow easy and flexible access to all the technology in each classroom. With the opening of Huntsman Hall and Wharton's West Coast campus in downtown San Francisco, Wharton will employ the most sophisticated and large-scale instructional technology of any educational institution in the world. |
