At Wharton, knowledge comes from many sources: research conducted by world-class faculty in 11 different disciplines, panelists at conferences and forums, analyses of business and industry trends from the School's more than 20 research centers and initiative, and reports on the campus visits of CEOs and business/government/academic leaders, to name a few.

Research Centers and Initiatives
Wharton's interdisciplinary research centers are where Wharton and Penn faculty, students, and members of the business community come together to advance research topics and debate key business challenges.
Conferences and Seminars
Wharton's annual research conferences provide a venue for faculty members to share their current research findings and create new knowledge with colleagues, experts, and the corporate community.
Knowledge@Wharton
Knowledge@Wharton, an innovative, web-based resource, presents the latest papers, conference reports, book reviews, news analyses, and other resources, which are all linked to an extensive database.
Wharton Research Data Services
World-class researchers need the best tools to do their work. In order to allow Wharton faculty and students quick and easy access to the broadest spectrum of data, the School with faculty input has developed Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS), an innovative application. The unique features of WRDS include:
- State-of-the-art, web-based data management service provides seamless delivery of data from multiple sources onto Unix workstations and desktop PCs.
- WRDS allows faculty, researchers, and students to query and retrieve information from one interface across a wide variety of databases across multiple disciplines such as finance, marketing, management, accounting, economics, banking, and insurance.
Lippincott Library
The Wharton School's Lippincott Library, which is located in the west wing of the University's Van Pelt Library, contains approximately 200,000 volumes, including more than 3,800 periodicals. Publications of business and financial services, federal and state documents, and materials relating to international organizations have been assembled for special reference. The Corporation File contains annual reports and other official filings from corporations in the United States and abroad.
Lippincott's offerings are available on faculty desktops as well. Document Delivery provides a Table of Contents Service, On-Demand Documents, and Book Delivery. All requests are delivered to department faculty mailboxes or electronically to faculty e-mail accounts. Lippincott's Business Databases page provides access to Factiva, Dun & Bradstreet, Standard and Poor's, and many, many more. The faculty account for the LexisNexis service, provided by Lippincott Library and administered by Wharton Computing, nearly doubles the coverage and features a more powerful search interface than the LexisNexis Academic Universe does.
Wharton Computing
Starting from microcomputers in student labs, group computing workstations, and classroom teaching stations throughout the Wharton complex, a network of Unix workstations are used for PhD and faculty research applications. Wharton's schoolwide Ethernet network provides data communications services, connections to Wharton's host systems, and access to PennNet, the Internet, and WRDS, the Wharton-created tool for data access now licensed to other schools.
Data resources available to Wharton faculty include CRSP, Compustat, and CITIBASE financial data series; online financial market information systems; and a large selection of economic, bibliographic, and news datasets. The Wharton Video Network is an online library of case studies, commercials, videotaped classes, review sessions, and guest lectures.
