“One thing that sets Wharton's Accounting Department apart is its diversity. Seventeen professors work across different subject areas, doing both theoretical and empirical research. Relationships with faculty start in the research environment, and over time you start regarding one another as colleagues. Research can be isolating, but the students and faculty in this department are always working collaboratively.”

Accounting

Wharton's doctoral program in Accounting takes a multidisciplinary approach to meeting the needs of today's complex markets, integrating finance and economics with broader perspectives on organizational issues and the business environment.

Research by faculty and doctoral students focuses on the impact of accounting information and policy-making on such areas as the behavior of capital markets, the behavior of decision-makers within a firm, and the structure of firms in general. See Research for representative publications.

Successful candidates possess a strong aptitude for abstract thinking and quantitative analysis. Recent graduates have taken positions at MIT, the University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University, UCLA, USC, and the University of Michigan.
