Stan O'Neal
As chairman and chief executive officer of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., Stan O誰eal heads one of the world's leading wealth management, capital markets and advisory companies with offices in 37 countries and territories and total client assets of approximately $1.6 trillion.
Mr. O誰eal became CEO of the company in December 2002 and was elected chairman in April 2003. He has held a series of positions since joining Merrill Lynch in 1986 as vice president of investment banking. He was named president and chief operating officer in July 2001 and served as president of Merrill Lynch痴 U.S. Private Client group from February 2000 until September 2001. He served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Merrill Lynch from 1998 until 2000 and also held the position of executive vice president and co-head of the Corporate and Institutional Client Group (now Global Markets & Investment Banking) prior to that. Previously, Mr. O誰eal had been in charge of capital markets and a managing director in investment banking, heading the financing services group, which included the high yield finance, restructuring, real estate, project and lease finance, and equity private placement groups.
Before joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. O誰eal was employed at General Motors Corporation in New York and Madrid. He held a number of financial positions at the company, including general assistant treasurer in New York, responsible for mergers, acquisitions and domestic financing activities.
Mr. O誰eal serves on the board of executives of the New York Stock Exchange and the corporate boards of the Partnership for New York City, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Lincoln Center Theater and the Financial Services Roundtable. Mr. O誰eal is a member of the Business Roundtable and the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the advisory board of Bronx Preparatory Charter School and the board of Riverdale Country School. Previously, he served as a director of General Motors Corporation, vice chairman of the Securities Industry Association and member of the U.S. Secretary of State Advisory Committee on Leadership and Management. He also formerly served on the boards of the Nasdaq Stock Market, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the Ronald McDonald House, Catalyst and the National Urban League.
Mr. O誰eal received a master痴 degree in business administration with distinction in finance from Harvard University and is a graduate of Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute). A resident of New York City, he is married with two children.
