Wharton Update Newsletter
The Newsletter of the Wharton Alumni Community June 2009

Dear Wharton Alumnus/a,

While we all face challenges in these economic times, Wharton sees important opportunities as well. As the world’s premier business school, Wharton has a powerful role to play in reshaping business education and serving as a force for global good. As members of Wharton’s alumni community, we too play a powerful role. Between now and the close of the School’s fiscal year on June 30, alumni have the important opportunity to demonstrate our belief in the value of Wharton’s mission.

Donating to The Wharton Fund—the School’s fund for annual giving—is an immediate way in which to make an impact on Wharton. The Fund provides critical unrestricted resources that support virtually every area across the School. Even more importantly, a high degree of participation by alumni in the annual giving program speaks to the value of a Wharton education. Our current participation rate by alumni in the Fund is far below that of our peer institutions, and not in keeping with a school of Wharton’s caliber. In my view, this low participation level by alumni reflects neither the extraordinary value of a Wharton education, nor the great pride that so many of us take in our Wharton degree.

As alumni, we are the strongest ambassadors of the Wharton brand. The very act of our participation is a powerful one. A firm commitment to The Wharton Fund from a significant percentage of alumni would send a strong message to the world that we believe in our alma mater and that it is worthy of our support. I urge you to visit: www.wharton.upenn.edu/giving.html, and support The Wharton Fund and the Wharton School today.

Sincerely,
Robert M. Levy, WG’74

Now, drawing on microscopic analysis of millions of shopping trips, Sorensen reveals exactly what your customers are thinking, why they behave as they do, and how to reshape stores to deliver truly remarkable results.

You’ll discover how to drive more profit from the “quick trip”...the three “moments of truth” in every shopping event...customer “migration patterns” within the store...and how to use “active retailing” to place products precisely where they’ll do best.
