Mr. Téllez is Managing Director of The Carlyle Group; he is based in Mexico City . Carlyle is one of the biggest private equity investors in the world and has just opened operations in Mexico .
Before joining Carlyle Mr. Téllez was Executive Vicepresident and Chief Executive Officer of DESC, a diversified industrial conglomerate and one of Mexico´s largest corporations.
Prior to his association with DESC, Mr Téllez served as Mexico´s Secretary of energu from 1997 until 2000. He served as Chief of Staff to President Zedillo from 1994 to 1997. Previously, Mr. Téllez was appointed Head Economist at the Ministry of Treasury from 1987 to 1990 and Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources from 1990 to 1994.
Mr. Téllez is member of the board of directors of DESC, FEMSA, Grupo México and member of the board of counselors of Kissinger McLarty Associates among other assignments.
Mr. Téllez was awarded a degree in economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autonómo de México and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the author and co-author of several papers and books.
